| Governor's Office of Recovery Calls Meeting to discuss state of recovery with respect to volunteers and available building resources as grants run out.
There is a meeting set for 1.30pm on Tuesday at the Knight non profit center to discuss, area wide, the state of recovery, the volunteer pool, available materials, resources, and grants, and work orders.
Several relief agencies have expressed concern over the lack of available funding and some agencies are turning away volunteers and sending the wrong message that "we are done". Far from done, the issue is the lack of funding for damaged homes in the wind zone, and unfinished homes in the flooded areas. The problem extends as far as Louisiana as there are reports of teams from New Orleans calling over to Mississippi to find work for crews on the ground in New Orleans.
The Mississippi Case Management Consortium put up a website to uplift those families who are in need of funding.

Mississippi Should Smash Its Secret Government according to Sun Herald Editorial. This get tough article, signed by the editorial staff of the Sun Herald, lashes out at the lack of open government and merciless vengeance of those unscrupulous participants in the long time practice in Mississippi of making life miserable for anyone who asks for access to public information or, for that matter, who bucks the powers that be. Volunteer the Can Program
If you are coming to volunteer, we are asking that you bring one can of food to donate to the Hancock Food Pantry. The aftermath and the fiscal down turn have impacted the resources of the food pantry and we are reaching out to help an organization that is assisting so many of our clients.
Volunteers Needed We are in need of both skilled and unskilled volunteers who are flexible and willing to work at any and all assignments. We never ask our skilled volunteers to do unskilled work. We are in need of as much assistance in the office as we are field work. Without the ground work done in the office in planing, surveys, calling clients, and everyday office tasks - there can not be the field work and organized work orders. That ground work in the office is critical as is the facility maintenance and upgrades. Expect both when you come to volunteer. | |
